Achievements

  • Water Resources Development Act

  • This legislation’s goal was to protect the nation’s water sources. In order to meet this goal, the legislation stipulated that the Army Corps of Engineers should manage the major navigable waterways in the United States and the restoration of these ecosystems. This also included municipal water and wastewater infrastructure. The Engineer Corps were expected to seek solutions to the problems we face providing clean water to our citizens. Despite Ryan’s help passing the bill, it was unfortunately vetoed.


  • Protecting the Great Lakes

  • Ryan cosponsored legislation such as H.R. 1350, the Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act

  • Overall, this bill provides $23 billion for a comprehensive set of environmental protection initiatives. These include pollution prevention, lowering mercury levels in the Great Lakes, invasive species control, and preservation of wildlife habitats and shorelines.

  • Paul Ryan voted to condemn British Petroleum’s contributions to pollution in the Great Lakes. (2007)
