MMSD is the service provider for water treatment in the greater Milwaukee area. While they are a leader in environmental innovation to help improve Milwaukee's water quality, they still find themselves subject to multiple lawsuits due to overflows and regulation violations. They are a major part of the SWWT and have a rain barrel program to give a subsidy to citizens who desire rain barrels within the district. These serve as examples of some of their environmentally friends policies. However, the frequent overflows during heavy rainfall events still leave many citizens and service receivers unhappy with MMSD's overall performance.
